Wal-Mart offers latest sign that employer-based health coverage is failing

When Wal-Mart, the country’s largest private employer, announced the other day that it’s cutting back on health coverage for workers, it wasn’t just the latest sign that our healthcare system is out of reach for a growing number of people.

It was also the clearest indication to date that our employer-based health insurance system has let us down, saddling millions of families with rising healthcare costs and leaving millions more out in the cold.

“The system is failing us,” said Alain Enthoven, a professor emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Business who served as a consultant to the Carter administration on healthcare issues. Read more…

Totaled on the test drive: Who pays?

It was 2008 when three students — or maybe four — walked onto the lot at GRT Motors, a used-car dealership in the Atlanta area. Steve Lang, the owner, was there to greet them.

Is Scope of Damage or Scope of Repair Subject to Appraisal?

Most property insurance policies include an appraisal provision that may be invoked by either the insurer or the insured to determine the value of a loss. Courts generally agree that “valuation” is the task of an appraisal panel, and “coverage determinations” are the province of courts. Emergency message to U.S. citizens traveling in southern Israel

There is currently a credible threat of increased violence and terrorist activity near the Israeli-Egypt border.
