Most insurance agencies seeing better results than last year

Insurance agency owners say most saw greater profits in the first quarter than in the last year, according to the latest IFAwebnews.com poll.

Fully 75% of insurance agency owners said their first quarter earnings exceeded any quarter last year, while another 13% indicated that their first quarter was worse. Exactly 11% of the agency owners indicated their first quarter was the same in earnings as last years quarters.

Justice Department tells Humana, Arcadian to divest in five states

The U.S. Justice Department is forcing Humana and Arcadian Management Services to divest themselves of Arcadians Medicare Advantage business in parts of five states to secure approval of Humanas acquisition.

As a procedural move, the Justice Department filed a civil suit in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., seeking to stop the proposed acquisition. At the same time, the department also filed a proposed settlement, whereby the health insurer will divest itself of the Medicare Advantage plans in the five states.

If approved by the court, the suit would be settled and the governments antitrust concerns would be addressed.
