Most travel insurance plans provide trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage. These benefits can reimburse a traveler their forfeited trip cost if, covered reason, they have to cancel before the trip or interrupt once the trip has started. In some situations, like a last minute sickness or death in the family, the traveler can have the choice of whether to cancel or delay their upcoming trip. When the departure is delayed or postponed, then trip interruption can pro-rate the trip cost for the missed time of the trip and reimburse the cost to rejoin the trip. The traveler should contact the travel insurance carrier if there is a possibility of a claim and be instructed on how to proceed. Always refer to the certificate of insurance for details.
