U.S. Supreme Court showdown on health reform law could come sooner

The U.S. government has said it will not appeal a federal court ruling on the federal health reform law, setting the stage for a faster U.S. Supreme Court, possibly as early as next summer in the heat of election season.

The U.S. Justice Department, representing the Obama Administration, has chosen not to ask the 11th Circuit of Appeals to reconsider its ruling. Instead, the Justice Department will ask the high court to take up whether the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is constitutional, according to Politico.

More than 20 federal court appeals are in play, mostly challenging the individual mandate included in the law.

Global Marine Insurance : Hurricane Irene Hits The East Coast

Hurricane Irene ended up traveling along quite a different path than what was originally expected this past week, surprising many residents of the East Coast. Below you can see Irene as it heads toward Florida but changes direction traveling north. Even though the hurricane warning was downgraded to a tropical storm, the storm caused serious damage and widespread flooding in many areas.

Is Scope of Damage or Scope of Repair Subject to Appraisal?

Most property insurance policies include an appraisal provision that may be invoked by either the insurer or the insured to determine the value of a loss. Courts generally agree that “valuation” is the task of an appraisal panel, and “coverage determinations” are the province of courts. Emergency message to U.S. citizens traveling in southern Israel

The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv Israel issued an emergency warning to U.S. citizens with plans to travel to southern Israel. There is currently a credible threat of increased violence and terrorist activity near the Israeli-Egypt border. In addition, surrounding areas adjacent to the Gulf of Aqaba in Israel, Egypt, and Jordan may be affected.

U.S. citizens are urged to exercise caution and initiate appropriate measures to protect themselves while traveling in this region. U.S. citizens planning travel in and near this area are encouraged to monitor local news for any changes as well as the U.S.
