Here’s what your health care future holds

The first expert you ask for medical advice in 2025 may not be your doctor. Instead, perhaps you’ll consult your health avatar, a digital assistant that knows your entire health history and makes personalized recommendations.

It’s one of many possibilities for what primary care could look like in 13 years, according to “Primary Care 2025: A Scenario Exploration,” a new report by the Institute for Alternative Futures, a nonprofit think tank based in Alexandria, Va.

The institute worked with 50 health care experts to create four scenarios of the future, each one based on different assumptions.

California’s Health Care System Needs Change

According to a new survey by the Public Policy Institute of California, nearly 60% of Californians believe major changes are needed in the state’s health care system.

Changes to Health System

The poll found that 62% of Democrats and 61% of independents thought major changes were needed in California’s health care system, compared with 53% of Republicans.

Researchers also found that:

  • 91% of respondents said that universal children’s health coverage is important for preventing illness:
  • 60% of respondents said they wanted more emphasis on preventive health care rather than treatment;
  • 40% of respondents said they were very satisfied with the quality of their health care; and
  • 22% said they were dissatisfied with the quality of their health care.

In addition, 53% of respondents said they were very concerned that California’s budget deficit would lead to major cuts in health and human services, while 31% of respondents said they were somewhat concerned.

Federal Health Reform Law

When asked about the federal health reform law, 51% of respondents said they support the overhaul and 36% said they oppose it.

Health Care Bill Increases Need for Physicians?

After all the debates and arguments regarding the new health care bill, we all know that what these officials are working on is to provide more reasonably priced plans. Now that these negotiations have been finalized, families under the low-income bracket can now afford the health care that they certainly deserve.

The health insurance reform bill recently passed by the House of Representatives would partly sponsor the purchase of health plans by the portion of 30 million uninsured Americans who fall under certain income levels.
